As if we as a community were not incestuous enough, we now work together… teaching ultimate. This Spring Edward Uram III (of Machine) and David Marincic (of Augie and, more importantly UIC) put their heads together and wrote up a grant proposal to Maggie Daley’s NPO “After School Matters.” I will spare you the details but After School Matters (ASM) is a big deal in Chicago and has helped thousands of teens in Chicago, most of whom are from poor communities, find something productive to do with their time outside of school and make some money while they’re at it. These programs are citywide and range from art to computer programming, and now, to ultimate.

Haymaker went into this weekend pumped for inarguably the most contentious matchup this Club Sectionals would see. In a field of 9 opponents, only two would get to move on to Regionals. Haymaker had been working and training since early May to prepare for this weekend and the potential of glory in Milwaukee. Last year, despite fielding a good team of athletic guys, they failed to meet the few positions of a competitive Section and were offered to attend Regionals as an afterthought, turning it down due to its placement in Nowhere, Oklahoma.

LUSH at Sectionals

by Jeanne on Sep 23, 2008

in Commentary, Mixed

Ingrained in my head is the idea that I’m a field hockey player first and then an ultimate player second despite the fact that I’ve spent my entire summer and fall thus far playing my 2nd sport. Regardless of this last thought, I don’t like getting into ultimate strategy or post-game analysis because there are a lot more seasoned and experienced players out there that can do a better job than yours truly. (Hwang- you put up a good fight to rope me into doing this!)

Nemesis at Sectionals

Sectionals wrap up? Please, what is there to wrap up?

*sigh* here goes…

Sectionals in South Bend was a riveting one day tournament consisting of Nemesis, Dish, Sauce, Purdue and Valpo. Written from the perspective of Nemesis, this tournament was more for us to work on specific things (different looks on D or speedy and efficient points, for instance) than to worry so much about the specific opponents at hand.
